Project Description

I came to the UK in 2009 to do a postgraduate degree in filmmaking. I never thought that I would stay to live and work here, since in Mexico I worked as a visual and performance artist for ten years and I had many achievements. However, I fell in love with London’s cinema and diversity.

At first it was difficult for me to integrate myself into the UK’s workplace and social life. I struggled a lot during the first five years, until I found, in 2013, British producers who bet on my work and I was able to make my first feature film called Tierra Caliente. Since then, I have dedicated myself to making cinema full time. My second film, Hermanos – Siblings, was bought by and is available on Amazon Prime, won the Audience Award at SAFF and an IMPACT DOC award in the United States. My third film, titled Non Western, premiered at the Visions du Réel 2020 festival in Switzerland, and was selected in the Best of Fests category at IDFA in the Netherlands.

Mexico is always present in my life, since it is part of my identity. It is enriching to learn new ways, as well as to have contact with the cultural mosaic that London offers, but being Mexican is something that simply is, and you cannot or want to change.
